Couch to 5K: Week 3 (Do-Over)

I've agreed to train for a 5K run along with my children (whether I will participate in the actual race the end of April is still in question) and have purposed to journal through these 9 weeks, as I did during the 60 day juice fast. This is week three. (I'm posting this a bit late due to a special post yesterday.)

Terry bought this new outfit to encourage me in this endeavor.
I told the girls, "I may not finish the race, but at least I'll look cute trying!"

Monday, February 25 Week 3 Day 1:

Since we had only one day of actual running last week due to inclement weather, we decided to repeat the Couch to 5K Week 2 plan, which consists of warm-up, then 6 rounds of running for 90 seconds then walking for 60 seconds. Focusing on my breathing helps immensely (and at times is the only thing I can focus on!): One breath per step to the count of three. Until the last 2 rounds, when my breathing increased to 2. By the end of our training, I felt like Gumby (really showing my age in that comment, I know!).

Tuesday, February 26 Week 3 Day 2:

We are continuing with T-Tapps on our "off" days and today I was surprised by how easy the routine was! Except for the Hoe-Downs, which I always feel.

Wednesday, February 27 Week 3 Day 3:

It was sleeting/snowing this morning and the wind was blowing, but our unrelenting "Coach" Stephanie refused to let the weather excuse us from running like last week, so out we ran, at times with ice smacking our cheeks. At one point I hummed the tune from Rocky and during the final 90 second run, I gave it all I had. I was pleasantly surprised to discover a little extra "umph" leftover. I began to think, "Wow, this seems to be getting a mite easier!"

But then Stephanie burst my happy bubble by explaining next week's plan...run for 90 seconds; walk for 90; then run for 3 MINUTES; walk for 3 minutes. Repeat twice. Ummm...yeah, we'll see how that goes!

Friday, March 1 Week 3 Day 5:

So remember how I "gave it all I had" on Wednesday??? Well, I sure felt it today! Not properly warming up also resulted in shin pain. Once I stopped and stretched, it went away. TGIF. 'Nuff said.

Week 3 Results:

There have been moments this week when I have thought (and actually said aloud once), "If I hadn't posted this on my blog, I would QUIT!" So I must thank you friends, for the accountability here.

Verse for Week 3:

But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection:
lest that by any means, when I have preached to others,
I myself should be a castaway.
